Below, organized by author, are all of the proper reviews (and a few improper ones) that I've published on this blog. Click on an author's name to see all the reviews for that author.
Note that these are only the authors I've actually reviewed on this blog. To see the full list of all the women writers of fiction I've come across and researched (two thousand or so of them!), click on "British & Irish Women Writers of Fiction 1910-1960: The Master List" in the left column of the blog, or here.

NOTE: The comment function on Blogger is notoriously cranky. If you're having problems, try selecting "Name/URL" or "Anonymous" from the "Comment as" drop-down (be sure to "sign" your comment, though, so I know who dropped by). Some people also find it easier using a browser like Firefox or Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.
But it can still be a pain, and if you can't get any of that to work, please email me at furrowed.middlebrow@gmail.com. I do want to hear from you!

I'm going to read my way through the list. I know some authors, but there are many who are brand new to me.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find lots to enjoy, Nan!
DeleteHave you read Honor Tracy? She seems to have been mostly forgotten....her novels were published between 1954 and 1979. Beautifully written, very funny, though perhaps offensive to those who romanticize Ireland and the Irish. The Straight and Narrow Path made her name, but her last book, The Ballad of Castle Reef,(1979) is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I don't see Nancy Mitford on your list. How can that be?
ReplyDeleteThis is only the list of authors I've actually reviewed on the blog. Check out The Overwhelming List, link in the left column of the blog, for the whole list of authors I've come across. It's MUCH larger (i.e. overwhelming indeed), and both Tracy and Mitford are included. I haven't managed to read Tracy yet, though I have a couple of her books, and I'm afraid my attempts to read Mitford haven't paid off. I rarely write negative reviews, especially of well-known authors, but a while back I confessed to a few of my failures, and included Mitford along with du Maurier, because I figured they both have so many followers, no one can possibly mind if I don't jump on the bandwagon!
DeleteHi there. I am the Vicar of Christ Church, New Malden in Surrey, United Kingdom. Jessie Challacombe, whose books you comment on, was Vicar's wife at my church 1893-1920 and I am currently writing a book about her and her work. I have found and read all of her novels - except the one that you display on your blog 'A Poor Man's Palace Rebuilt' which I cannot locate anywhere. Do you possess a copy - hence the excellent picture of the cover you were able to display?
