And just...Yes, yes, yes, Summer's Day, Cestina! And just to show that I'm not completely off base (on this one, at least), I will note that Sue Sims and Hilary Clare also praise Summer's Day in "The Book." Having now finished MEA's Margaret Finds a Future and particularly enjoyed, as CallMeMadam noted above, the vivid sense of place that it offered, I am now eyeing titles like Chiltern Adventure, The School on North Barrule, and Catrin in Wales because I'd like to vicariously experience their settings as well.Furrowed Middlebrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12065110409019861653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-63172977073200734522014-07-10T12:33:58.236-07:002014-07-10T12:33:58.236-07:00Chiltern Adventure was much loved by me as a child...Chiltern Adventure was much loved by me as a child. I have Murder at the Flood on my bookshelves. Must dig it out - and Summer's Day which is standing alongside it....Cestinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03050699324845479257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-13242453507949103662014-07-09T07:28:36.397-07:002014-07-09T07:28:36.397-07:00I've since read Margaret Finds a Future, my on...I've since read Margaret Finds a Future, my only other MEA so far, and enjoyed it a lot, but I think Return has a vibrant, youthful feel and perhaps a bit more of a literary approach, so you might want to give it a try. Thanks for the blog link. I was amazed to learn that MEA wrote nearly 200 books in all, so the blogger will certainly have her hands full!Furrowed Middlebrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12065110409019861653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-61189596428804938772014-07-09T07:24:16.022-07:002014-07-09T07:24:16.022-07:00Oh, yes! I'm making a note of Thunder on the Hill, which sounds perfect.Furrowed Middlebrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12065110409019861653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-993691905337376192014-07-08T15:00:56.834-07:002014-07-08T15:00:56.834-07:00I have this book on the tbr shelves so I skipped t...I have this book on the tbr shelves so I skipped the second half of your review as I want to read this one soon. I enjoyed MEA's other books, Murder at the Flood reminded me of the movie Thunder on the Hill (very atmospheric mystery set in a convent during great floods in the 50s with Gladys Cooper as a wonderful Reverend Mother) & Margaret Finds a Future. I also have Death goes to Italy & Death goes Dancing on the tbr shelves. I've also just ordered a copy of Summer's Day because I am desperate to read it after your many enticing mentions!lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.com
