I had heard that she is an uneven writer, and she apparently did experiment a lot with styles and themes. A good thing overall, but bound to be hit or miss for her readers, I suppose. You may want to try Family Roundabout, the title published by Persephone, which I also really loved, featuring two really wonderful family matriarchs overseeing the linkage of their families. In fact, it may be time for me to re-read that one...Furrowed Middlebrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12065110409019861653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-40302110685717638672014-03-01T10:06:37.504-08:002014-03-01T10:06:37.504-08:00Scott ~ Reporting back, fyi.

Not having read anything else but Matty I can't delve much into comparisons of this book, other than to say I found it dark. She's quite good with her characters, but they're singularly dark and foreboding. You just know this isn't going to be a happy endings sort of novel. There are a couple of twists of events, possibly trite now but not when written in 1930. At just over 300 pages, there's a lotta gloom!

Would enjoy hearing other's thoughts, as I'm far from being knowledgeable.

del, of
curlsnskirls.wordpress.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-51536390432663424972013-07-23T15:33:00.605-07:002013-07-23T15:33:00.605-07:00Haha, well I am very glad to have inspired purchas...Haha, well I am very glad to have inspired purchases from Greyladies even if I didn't make mine there!

I was just reading more about Crompton at the Orlando Project, and several of her other novels sound very enticing too. Sadly, though, most are not terribly affordable.
