Starts slow, gets better, gets even better and more suspensful, then a mostly satisfying conclusion.
TomAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-31928177363041166832020-02-05T09:53:23.864-08:002020-02-05T09:53:23.864-08:00As others have said, a wide range of interesting s...As others have said, a wide range of interesting sounding books. But here is some feedback on other books/authors of your list.

I just finished reading The Village by Marghanita Laski. What a delightful novel. Dealing with issues like DES's Kate Hardy, and reminding me in spots of Thirkell. Exploring how the ending of WWII changes the class issues in a village 20 miles outside of London, and the lives of the individuals impacted. The only thing I want to make my enjoyment more complete when I next read the book is a map of the village, showing who lives where. My The Book Club edition has a "cast of characters" at the front, and a pleasant although rather boring DJ but no map. Thank you Scot for recommending this book. (The Foolish Gentlewoman by M. Sharp is waiting for my next "dead tree" reading session.)

I also want to comment on the works of ECR Lorac, whom you mentioned above. I have had the opportunity to read those mysteries by her that have been released by the British Library in the past few years. I enjoy them a lot, even though, especially for those set in the country or villages/small towns, when in my experience the first bit is a lovely novel of manners, setting up the relationships, etc. I think I would have enjoyed these books if they had continued as novel of manners without the murder and detection thrown in even more, but they do make good mysteries. Again, many thanks to Scott for making me aware of these delights.

JerriAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-49961612207349074792020-02-03T05:22:38.465-08:002020-02-03T05:22:38.465-08:00I think you must be right Ruth.
