I wish I could have been there, but I enjoyed seeing Susan's pictures and it looks like you had a blast. I think my authority on most issues is questionable, but I'm honored anyway!

By the way, are the "authorities" you refer to the powers-that-be at Blogger, or some more ominous force? :-) I got a laugh out of that.Furrowed Middlebrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12065110409019861653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-10465353526837611762014-08-16T11:21:06.922-07:002014-08-16T11:21:06.922-07:00Well, I guess moving to England when one is four t...Well, I guess moving to England when one is four takes us back to our question of who is "really" British, right? I think I might even have included her on my list, if she had only ever written fiction! Glad you enjoyed the dress cartoon. Scott, your name came up several times at our Toronto gathering when we needed to put a bit of authority behind our opinions (As in, Well, Scott says in his blog that....) Wish you had been there.
Linda Jacks
Sorry if this shows up twice, but it seemed as if this is what the authorities wanted me to do.elljayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03475401098769442019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-32163010578703345672014-08-15T01:15:55.314-07:002014-08-15T01:15:55.314-07:00You've done it again Scott - whisked me back t...You've done it again Scott - whisked me back to my youth. Punch was one of the two magazines allowed to grace the drawing room of our house at boarding school (1953-59) - the other was The Illustrated London News. Anton's cartoons took me straight back there; they are instantly recognisable as part of my teenage years.
I would never have suspected she was not English. The cartoons are quintessentially British to my eye. And searingly accurate.

I so get the dress one! But then I grew up with coupons. I LOVED her - and bought her albums (back when they were on vinyl!) AND I used to date someone "seriously" and our song was "Hopelessly Devoted to You." Excuse me while I fawn and blather! And turn back to my 20's! But, OK, in the meantime, I am off to the library this morning, where they FINALLY found me a copy of Aird's "The Late Phoenix!"
