It's certainly more like a novel - in that it's one character all the way through - though quite episodic, if I recall correctly.Simon T (StuckinaBook)http://www.stuckinabook.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-13665574396365069482018-04-12T11:51:01.248-07:002018-04-12T11:51:01.248-07:00Sometimes when I see illustrations (especially pen...Sometimes when I see illustrations (especially pen and ink the Dennys's) from the 1930's through 50's or so, I think "that would make a good illustration for this episode in . . . one of the Mrs. Tim or Miss Buncle books!" I ought to start scanning and collecting them. But it would have been wonderful if someone had done it then. The illustrations in the newspaper or magazine version of DES's books are interesting, but usually full colored and somehow for this sort of book they lack something that simple pen and ink can provide.

JerriAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5595702824833504762.post-80345059484038390342018-04-12T06:56:55.505-07:002018-04-12T06:56:55.505-07:00Ooo, an illustrated Mrs. Tim. I have enjoyed them very much, and really LOVE the illustrations. How I wish Dennys had illustrated DEStevenson's Mrs. Tim books! These two are also available as Audibooks, and are pleasant that way, but one really needs to look at the artwork before or after listening!

I haven't managed to read any of her other books. Since the one you read is so short, it sounds like an Omnibus reissue of all the Dose books might be fun, especially with the lovely artwork.

I would be interested to read the memoir.

JerriAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
